Tucked away in the far northeast reaches of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is the small town of Greenville, home to 26,000 North Texans.
But not everything is quiet and dusty about Greenville. Rather, than town has seen its share of activity over its 170-year history. Founded in 1846, Greenville is located in Hunt County, the cotton capital of the world, and Greenville was once the home of the world’s largest inland cotton compress. A fire destroyed the compress decades ago, but Greenville has found its economic footing elsewhere.
Located just a short distance outside of Dallas, Greenville residents have easy access to all of the big city’s offerings, including LASIK eye surgery services. The Metroplex is also home to a variety of recreational and economic opportunities, although Greenville has made due with its economy over the years. During World War II, Majors Airport served as a major training base for P-47 Thunderbolt pilots, and the airport has continued to create solid economic activity for the town over the years. Today, L-3 Communications Missions Integration (formerly Raytheon) makes its home at Majors Airport, providing Greenville with its largest industry.
While Greenville is mostly a small town, the residents of the area also have plenty of access to modern services, like LASIK eye surgery. Greenville is located an hour’s drive outside of Dallas, giving its residents access to recreational opportunities like Dallas Mavericks games and plenty of shopping, and its location in Hunt County puts it in the center of several large lakes, including Cooper Lake, Lake Tawakoni, and Lake Lewisville.
