When DeSoto, Texas, first incorporated back in 1949, the town was home to fewer than 300 residents. In fact, less than 50 brought forth the petition to form the city in the first place. Today, though, the suburb of Dallas has developed into an active and thriving community of nearly 50,000 residents. DeSoto residents can easily access LASIK eye surgery at one of the many medical facilities in the area, such as the Methodist Charlton Medical Center and other eye care centers.

As with many communities in the area, DeSoto developed during the 19th century with a cotton gin driving its economy. It wasn’t until much later, however, that the town really started to develop. In 1949, the town incorporated, and development continued through the post-war era.

The 1980s were a period of tremendous growth for DeSoto, as the population of the town doubled from 15,000 in 1980 to 30,000 in 1990. During that time, the population also got access to many new amenities, including the Town Center, which features a number of civic and recreation centers for DeSoto residents. Today, DeSoto residents have access to all of the suburban support they might need, including easy access to LASIK eye surgery. Eye care centers around the area can provide laser vision correction to those that struggle with poor vision and want to see DeSoto in a clearer light.

The town is particularly unique for its high level of diversity. The DeSoto population is nearly split down the middle between Caucasian and African-American residents, and the community has come together to form a tightly-knit family. This is particularly indicated by DeSoto’s status as an “All-America City,” as designated by the National Civic League for the people’s ability to work together to solve community-wide problems.
