Thirty years ago, McKinney, Texas, was the same quiet agricultural town it had been since its inception back in the 1840s. Today, things are a bit different: McKinney is now home to over 130,000 residents and has been listed on numerous lists of the best places to live in the United States.

The reasons are many. First, the town’s location on the periphery of the Metroplex gives residents easy access to important services like LASIK eye surgery. Laser vision correction can be extremely helpful for those that struggle with blurry vision, and it’s worthwhile to head to a local eye care center to get a better view of this lovely North Texas city.

McKinney offers a unique combination of suburban living with natural resources. McKinney is home to numerous parks with plenty of hills and trails to enjoy. Residents can also take advantage of the 96-acre Al Ruschhaupt Soccer Complex, which features five lit soccer fields, along with an amphitheater and facilities for cricket, football, and lacrosse.

It wasn’t always like this in McKinney. During its early years, McKinney was the agricultural commercial center for Collin County, providing farmers with mills for flour, corn, and cotton, along with a number of facilities for cotton processing. In the 1980s, as the Metroplex started to expand, McKinney started to attract more workers from Dallas, starting the development that sparked even more in the ensuing decades.
