Tipping the scales with a population of nearly 227,000 residents, Garland could hardly be considered a suburb. This city is one of the 100 largest in the nation, and it is also one of the finest in which to live, at least according to CNN and Money Magazine.

The town provides its residents with easy to access to all of the offerings of Dallas itself, including LASIK eye surgery, but it is no slouch when it comes to economic, cultural, and recreational offerings within the town’s limits.

Garland developed at first in the 1870s, but it started to become a major town when businesses began to occupy the area in the late 1930s. Several aircraft plants opened around Garland during World War II—one of which was later (and still) occupied by Kraft Foods. Along with Kraft, Raytheon is one of the largest employers in Garland, as are Sears and Atlas Copco. That means that in addition to necessary services like LASIK eye surgery, the people of Garland also have access to jobs in spades around the local area.

Garland is no slouch when it comes to recreation, either. Located on the western shore of Lake Ray Hubbard, Garland offers residents camping, boating, and fishing from the southwestern edge of town, in addition to a variety of other recreational features. LASIK eye surgery can definitely help Garland residents enjoy the Patty Granville Arts Center, which features two venues for theater and musical performances. Garland is also home to the Spring Creek Forest Preserve and the Rowlett Creek Preserve and Mountain Bike Trails, along with the Firewheel Golf Park.
